NEW MINIMUM WAGES FOR THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

As from 1 July 2011, the minimum wage rates in the Hospitality Industry are increased by 5.2% to the following:

EMPLOYERS WITH 10 OR LESS EMPLOYEES:

- Monthly Salary: R2094.52
- Weekly Salary:R481.10
- Hourly Rate:R10.70

EMPLOYERS WITH MORE THAN 10 EMPLOYEES:

- Monthly Salary: R2323.97
- Weekly Salary:R536.34
- Hourly Rate:R11.92

These increases are only on minimum wage rates.  Higher earners therefore do not necessarily have to receive the same percentage increase.

The increases do not apply in areas that are governed by bargaining council agreements.
